What can we learn from and how can we follow in the footsteps of the saints? These men and women showed what integrity looks like – living out what they believed.
Lord, please help me to humbly learn from the lives of those who have gone before me in the faith. Grow a “heart of mission” within me. Amen!
Pope John Paul II talks about what he calls, “the lived theology of the saints.” As women and men, we are called to not just know about Jesus, but to walk out in our lives this theology we embrace.
Archbishop Timothy Costelloe SDB explains this further when talking about Saint John Bosco & Saint Pope John Paul II: “They became great saints because they were great disciples.” These saints lived lives that reflected discipleship through harmony between what they said, what they wrote and what they did.
The saints all had one thing in common – spending time in the Presence of Jesus. As Catholics, we believe that Jesus is Truly Present in the Eucharist (the consecrated communion host & wine) so when we are in Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament (the Eucharist on display in a monstrance on the altar) we are really in the Presence of God.
